Mesa Swim Team provides a competitive swimming
experience within a caring and supportive environment. The team consists of approximately
170 swimmers between the ages of six and eighteen years, experienced and dedicated
coaches, and many hardworking parents. We believe in the development of the whole
child with emphasis on fun, encouragement, and pride, all of which result from regular
progress and hard work. Many of the friendships and memories which our children
develop last a lifetime. Mesa Swim Team is a member of the Boulder Valley Summer
Swim League. We are not affiliated with Mesa Swim Club or Mesa Elememtary School.

Parents The success of the summer swim league rests in the hands of the parents!
Most importantly, parents provide encouragement and positive feedback to their children.
In addition, every parent must commit to helping with our home swim meets and with
other team activities. Please communicate any concerns or suggestions to Doug Brown,
our Parent Liaison to the coaching staff.
Coaches are responsible for planning, coordinating and running the practices. Stroke
work and conditioning are emphasized. Coaches schedule the individual and relay
events for the dual meets and maintain records of the swimmers times. At meets,
coaches interact with the swimmers to provide encouragement and advice on their
performances.
Swimmers are expected to attend practice regularly. Through consistent practice
and attention to the coaches, swimmers will improve swimming techniques and times.
It is important for all team members to support each other and display good sportsmanship
throughout the season.

Mesa's Big/Little Swimmer Program
For many years, Mesa Swim Team has had a mentoring program where older, experienced “Big” swimmers encourage their younger “Little” swimmers throughout the summer. Interested eleven to eighteen-year-olds serve as "big swimmers" and are paired with "little swimmers," ages 5 through 10 years old, at the beginning of the season. Parents, if your swimmer decides to sign up to be either a “Big” or “Little” swimmer, they really need your support and guidance throughout the summer. In the past, some swimmers, both young and old have been disappointed by the lack of involvement and/or appreciation on the part of their little or big swimmer. Please remember that this program is entirely voluntary and will only work if both “Little” and “Big” swimmers participate equally.
The purpose of the Big Swimmer/Little Swimmer program is to:
- Foster team spirit.
- Encourage multi-age friendships.
- Help younger Mesa swimmers become comfortable with swim team routines and swim meets.
- Have fun!
Duties of Big Swimmers
- Make friends with your little swimmer.
- Find out what your little swimmer would like to know about swim team.
- On meet days, help your little swimmer identify which events they are swimming.
- Cheer your little swimmer on at the swim meets.
- Offer race advice when appropriate. For example, remind your little swimmer to "touch with two
hands on the fly" or "stay on your back" for the backstroke.
- Play a game of cards or read together under the tent.
- Some swimmers like to bring small treats, cards or posters for their little swimmers.
Duties of Little Swimmers
- Ask all your questions, big and little, about the team and the meets.
- On meet days, find out which events your big swimmer is swimming.
- Take other little swimmers to the end of the lane to cheer for all the big swimmers.
- Make a card or poster for your big swimmer.
- Have fun with your big swimmer!
- Make friends with your big swimmer.
